SURFACE PREPARATION
Prior to grouting ensure that your paving is firmly fixed, solid and stable. All paving joints should be completely clean – free of debris, dirt, sand, aggregates, leaves or grass. The joints should be clear to the full depth of the paving and free of any hardened bedding mortar (ideally removed before it has cured], which allows the joints to be filled with grout to the full depth, creating better stability and a longer lasting weed free joint!
How do I mix UltraScape Prem-Flex?
UltraScape Prem-Flex comes supplied as 3 x 3KG bags in a bucket. We advise mixing a single bag at a time for external paving, however as a rule of thumb if you do choose to mix more, do not mix more than can be used within a 30-40 minute period. UltraScape Prem-Flex should be added slowly, to clean water (powder to water) in a large bucket in the approximate volume ratio as indicated on the packaging. Mix until a smooth, cake batter consistency is achieved, then leave to stand for 2 minutes, then remix the grout. Do not add any additional water as this can weaken the final strength of the grout. Once you have mixed and started to use Prem-Flex grout, never re-wet with additional water to change the consistency as this will weaken the final cured strength and may result in crumbling at a later date.
How do I apply UltraScape Prem-Flex?
Once mixed, UltraScape Prem-Flex should be applied over the paving or tiled joints using a rubber edged trowel, float or neoprene squeegee. Carefully work the mixed grout into the joints, diagonally a small section at a time. Ensure the joints are completely filled, without voids, before moving on to the next section. Any excess Prem-Flex paving grout should be removed off the surface of the paving as you go.
When preparing to joint external paving slabs, we advise looking for a window of a couple of days with dry weather. Grouting should ideally be carried out in completely dry conditions and remain dry for 24 hours post application, whilst the grout cures. Ideal temperatures for applying Prem-Prime grout are 5 – 25oC. Do not use in wet weather or frosty conditions. Avoid direct sunlight and higher temperatures as this will accelerate the curing of the grout. If joints appear to be drying too quickly due to warmer conditions or the absorbency of the paving, then a gentle misting of clean water may help to keep the joints damp. Do not soak with water, or allow any pooling or ponding water to develop over the paved area.
How do I clean and wash off UltraScape Prem-Flex from my paving?
To clean UltraScape Prem-Flex off your external tiles or paving slabs we would recommend the use of a wash boy, a firm sponge and plenty of clean water, which will remove the grout residue and provide a completely smooth joint finish. Any grout residue left on the face of the paving, can be removed by wiping with a clean damp sponge at the point when the grout has started to firm up – approximately 15 -30 minutes depending on temperature, humidity and the absorbency of paving. Non-absorbent paving such as porcelain or ceramics may take a little longer, but this will be dependent on weather conditions. Any dry Prem-Flex grout or residue remaining on the face of the slabs once washed down can be polished off the face of the paving with a soft dry cloth. Do not attempt to clean or wash down the paving, until the grout is firm to the touch. Cleaning to early may lead to removal of grout from the joints and potential shading variation once dry. Textured or riven paving may need additional cleaning due to the surface finish.
How to clean off your tools after using UltraScape Prem-Flex.
Tools should be thoroughly cleaned with water to remove excess material immediately after use and before the grout sets. Water should not be emptied into the drainage system as this may block drains with hardened cement material.
